Mill in Gardamus Great

Michael McCarthy

In the early 19th century, Gardamus Great, a townland in the Mayglass area of County Wexford, was home to a notable mill owned by John Fortune. This mill is depicted on the 1829 Ordnance Survey maps, indicating its operational status during that period. However, by the time of the 1897 maps, both this mill and a nearby windmill were marked as ruins, suggesting they had ceased operations by the late 19th century (source).

The presence of these mills underscores the historical significance of milling in the Gardamus area, reflecting its contribution to the local economy during the 19th century.
